Free Google XML Sitemap Generator: One for Websites and One for WordPress Blogs
A Google XML Sitemap can help your website be seen faster on Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask. In fact, one study on Sitemaps by Google’s Uri Schonfeld and Narayanan Shivakumar reported that 78% of website URLs that were seen by both Sitemaps and Discovery were seen first by Sitemaps. That’s huge for new sites and new blogs or sites that are not ranking well in the natural search results. [BTW - "Discovery" is the process of being "discovered" on the Internet by bots crawling your site via links from other sites.]
Building a sitemap by hand is a tedious, time-consuming and unnecessary process. Also, it can seem really complicated to create a fully functional and bug-free sitemap that works on your site unless you know some reliable shortcuts. And, this is probably not something you want to spend a lot of money on, either. So, let’s make that “unless you know some reliable, free shortcuts!”
If you have a regular website, you can simply ask your webmaster if he/she knows how to create a Google XML Sitemap for your site and submit it to Google, etc. If they are worth their salt – they can do this in less than 1 hour support time.
If you built your own website, then a reliable, free Google XML Sitemap Generator is www.xml-sitemaps.com Just go there and fill out the online sitemap generator form and then follow the instructions for uploading the Sitemap to your website.
If you have a WordPress blog, then you are in LUCK my friend! It doesn’t get any easier than this…
Login to your WordPress Dashboard, go to Plugins >> Add New and search for Google XML Sitemaps by Arne Brachhold then click Install >> Activate. You can edit the settings if you want to, but make sure you know why you are changing them. Don’t just arbitrarily change your settings.
There you have it: a free, reliable, and easy-to-use Google XML Sitemap Generator for websites and one for WordPress blogs! Simple.
