3 SEO Myths Debunked

Because many people lack accurate information about how the search engines work, quite a few myths about SEO persist. These myths can be hard to combat because once mistaken ideas are repeated often enough, they are widely believed in. Let’s take a look at some of the most harmful of these myths so the next time you hear them you’ll know better.

The first myth we will look at is that it’s necessary to build special optimized pages on your site if you want to rank highly. Any page can rank well in the search engines, as long as you know what you’re doing. Creating a special landing page that is set up for SEO is not necessary. If you are advertising with PPC you do need a landing page, but it’s not needed to rank in the organic listings. You want your visitors to arrive at one of your site’s main pages, rather than trying to create an extra page for them to land on. So if some of the pages on your site aren’t getting you traffic, it simply means you need to work on optimizing them better, rather than adding new ones. If you consider the purpose of landing pages and the importance of converting the traffic that you get, this idea should make sense to you. Another fallacy that many people fall for is that it is compulsory to have a Google Sitemap. Google has an array of tools in its arsenal that you can use and the Sitemap is one of many. You won’t require a Google Sitemap at all if your site has been designed and built properly so that it is attractive to search engines. Of course, it won’t hurt your site if you have it and it might lead to your site getting indexed a little faster but that’s about the limit. Having it won’t get you better rankings or influence other SEO factors.

The fact that your site will be banned if you buy links to your site from other relevant websites is another myth. If they knew that these links were paid links they would not count them because they don’t like people trying to influence the rankings of their sites, however, in most cases they aren’t aware of the fact. They would just discount these links if they were to find out that you paid for them. It doesn’t make sense for them to ban a site completely just because it advertised its link on other websites. But you should remember that when you’re buying links, the same link building rules apply. It doesn’t matter if you are purchasing links or not, they still need to come from sites that are relevant to your niche. Generally speaking, no matter how much effort you need to put into SEO, which requires quite a bit of work, it’s worth every moment. The best way to learn SEO is through your own trial and error, and forget about all these fantasies that are completely false.
