Rapid Local Search Marketing Success for Highly Competitive Keyword Phrase
I completed my first website for a plumber on 2/26/10 along with the SEO and SEM included in my standard website package for plumbers. Within 10 days I checked his rank and he was #3 on Bing, #4 on Yahoo, and #43 on Google for his main, and most competitive, keyword phrase.
This plumber was targeting a very large city (which, by the way, is not the city his office is located in) with an enormous amount of competition for the top keyword phrase which, for his market, is “plumber + his city.” I’m not telling the exact city because I don’t want to give away all my proprietary local search marketing “secrets.” They are not really secrets, it’s all stuff I learned from someone in my field. I attribute this local search marketing success to being obsessive and perfectionistic in my SEO of his website as well as the SEO of all of the hand directory submissions I did for him.
Prior to specializing in websites for plumbers, I also did research about what makes visitors to plumber’s websites pick up the phone and call the plumber. I’m happy to say that this particular plumber already received a phone call from a customer who found his site on the Internet because of my efforts. He made $400 profit on that plumbing job – and that is just the beginning!

Dr Keith – I, too, use directory listings, blogs, etc to create MULTIPLE incidents of results on Google for a local business keyword phrase, in addition to their main website being found. Great strategy!
